As reported on the AKC website, in the wake of the September 11th disasters,
major airlines have changed their policies for carrying dogs and other live
animals. This information changes daily as the Federal Aviation Administration
issues new directives, airports implement heightened security requirements,
and airlines adjust policies based on their ability to fulfill these new requirements.
Pet policies vary greatly from one carrier to the next and sometimes from
one airport to another. If you are planning to travel with your dog or ship
your dog by air, please be sure to contact your airline directly-and again
just before your departure date-for the latest information.
Following is a list of pet forwarding companies that are recognized as "known
shippers" by most airlines. Please note that the AKC does not endorse any
particular air transportation company and does not know of their safety records;
we are providing these resources for informational purposes only.
